What happened this past Friday was heinous, despicable and has severely damaged our community.  But we are “Woodburn Proud,” so I’m suggesting that all area businesses adopt one or more of the following ideas:
 
1. Adorn your business with BLUE ribbons or similarly colored decorations beginning Wednesday the 17th of December and extending through the end of the year:
    ”BLUE” to honor the men and women in blue who protect us every day;
    ”BLUE” to honor the memory of our valiant Officer Tom Tennant and Oregon State Police Officer Bill Hakim who
     gave their lives for us, and for the speedy recovery of our Police Chief Scott Russell;
    ”BLUE” as the color of Woodburn High School to let people know we are Woodburn Proud and will not be cowed
     by cowards;
    ”BLUE” as the color of West Coast Bank to express our solidarity with them.

2. On Thursday the 18th of December let’s have all employees wear BLUE as we honor them further.

 

3. EVERY business in Woodburn should send at least one representative to the memorial service, even if it means shutting your doors for a few hours.  Sometimes respect outweighs the pursuit of profit, even in these hard economic times.

 

4. Consider contributing a portion of your gross sales for Thursday the 18th to the fund for Officer Tennant, and then bring the money into West Coast Bank the next day to show your support.
 
Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families involved in this tragedy.  Now is the time for the business community to stand up and show our respect and unwavering support for our local heroes.
